The Spirit of a Giving Heart is a unique non-profit foundation dedicated to providing hope to children of the Navajo and Hopi Nations in Central Arizona through our annual holiday gifts of school supplies, clothing, books, athletic equipment and toys. It is dedicated to bring joy and hope to the children of the Navajo and Hopi Nations through the loving hearts and hands of every person who helps to support this program.
We currently give to children in kindergarten through fifth grade at Shonto Preparatory School. This is a very poor community and many of the children live at the school, going home only on the weekend and for holidays. We rely on the generosity of individuals to purchase gifts from each child’s wish list, or a give monetary donation. We greatfully accept any donations from school supplies, clothes, shoes, toys, books, etc. We do ask that all donations that are intended for holiday gifts be new. Any used items are also appreciated and will be donated to the school to be used at their discretion.
Shonto is about 200 miles northeast of Flagstaff and is at the end of the paved highway. The pavement ends at the school and the roads become dirt. The children come from one of the most economically challenged areas within the Navajo Reservation. Their gift requests are primarily items that our children take for granted…school supplies, clothes, shoes, books, art supplies, back packs… Some will ask for a basketball, Legos, or a Barbie doll. This may be the best, and possibly only gift these children receive for Christmas.
With the monetary donations, The Spirit of a Giving Heart guarantees that each child on the annual list receives a gift; no one is left out. Contributions from those who wish to be a part of the program can give in the form of new gifts, money, or in-kind donations. The Spirit of a Giving Heart builds friendships and understanding through this unique gift-giving program.
All donations are tax-deductible.
